Hi, Which is the latest,stable,Y2K compliant version of Online on Unix ? 7.3 UC..UD... confused ! What are the issues of concern during an upgrade.I remember seeing some postings about "in place alter table" ,update statistics recommendations changing etc,..., Is there a comprehensive upgrade faq available anywhere ? (Currently we run Online Dyn. Server 7.14 UD1,esql 7.11UC1X3 on MP-RAS) TIA Sathish Sadagopan

You are using 7.14 which did not do in-place alter so this is a non-issue. Your SYSMASTER database will be rebuild slightly larger and a new database SYSUTILS will be added by the upgrade so you need to make sure you have a few extra MB in the ROOTDBS dbspace. Any new indexes or indexes you manually rebuild after the update will be slightly larger than before so allow space, older indexes are supported so there is no long upgrade processing. Similarly, the bitmaps for tables with no variable length columns (varchar, TEXT, DATA, etc) are changed so that all tables use the same bitmap page types, new tables and restructured tables will be slightly larger (1 additional page per ~4000 data pages). For fragmented tables all indexes are treated, internally, as detached and get their own extents in the same dbspaces as the table which can fragment the table, this also only affects new tables & indexes or reorganized ones. That's about it. Mostly painless. Art S. Kagel
WE are currently on 7.24uc5 and looking to go to the 7.3 codestream very soon, but there are some issues that we are facing..... send me some mail cbolden@harrahs.com Sadagopan, Sathish, CFCTR wrote in message <794gsr$917$1@news.xmission.com>... > >Hi, >Which is the latest,stable,Y2K compliant version of Online on Unix ? 7.3 >UC..UD... confused ! >What are the issues of concern during an upgrade.I remember seeing some >postings about "in place alter table" ,update statistics recommendations >changing etc,..., >Is there a comprehensive upgrade faq available anywhere ? >(Currently we run Online Dyn. I don't remember whether the transition from NLS ( <7.20) to GLS (7.20+) is painless. I do remember that if you are NOT using NLS, but insert "ß" or other national characters ( > 127 ascii), you may have problems with GLS unless you get the latest en-us8859 character set.
