No, you better call yourself to find out ... As much as it scares me to do so, I feel I must enter the melee here to defend Alan. Point #1: Alan did not perpetrate the update-only maintenance blunder, I did. I immediately followed it up with a retraction after I did get up and get the official answer. Point #2: It is not a good idea to post the "official answer" to anything on the net because you wind up being put in the position of being the arbiter of Informix policy on the net. If I have to worry that everything I say on the net will be construed as Informix Policy Gospel, then I guarantee that you'll never see me or anyone else at Informix posting to this group ever again. The whole point of Usenet is a free exchange of ideas, not the broadcast of legally binding statements of policy. Perhaps you should spend less time ranting and raving at Alan and more time reading the clever disclaimers that everyone puts on the end of their posts. They're there for a reason you know. If you really wanted us to be official policy types, you'd never hear from us on technical questions. We'd just have a cron job run which would post "Call Tech Support" every month or so. I worked on the front lines of Tech Support for a long time, and I develop applications using Informix products now. Believe me when I say that I do understand the frustration you may feel when you encounter a bug or a situation which isn't quickly solvable. I go through it myself on a regular basis. I don't think, however, that this is the proper forum for presenting Informix policy. If you want to talk policy, then take it up with your salesperson, we're here to discuss technical issues and other issues of general interest. If one of us feels that we may have some information regarding some policy or another, we'll post it to be helpful. It's your job to take it for what it is--some guy who THINKS he knows the current story. Nothing of what is said here is meant to be legally binding. Okay, now clog my mailbox with flames again... +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | David Ranney {uunet | pyramid}!infmx!dranney | | Informix doesn't pay me enough to write their opinions for them. | +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
