I also recently upgraded to ESQL/C 4.1 and was disappointed that MSC6.0 was the most current supported compiler I could use. I also just got my upgrade for Visual C/C++ (version 8.0 MSC) and got alot of unresolved external errors trying to compile the simplest of code. >Informix dosn't seem to care. I also elected not to pay for the support as I feel it isn't necessary for I'm using, but did continue to get the basic pkg which includes upgrades. I wasn't aware of the 90 day support, though I did call twice and received the help I needed. I called the SQL section to complain that my program were running much slower than were on 2.10 and they told me to use pstartsql and pisql which corrected my problem; and , I called the esql section and asked why I could use my new Visual C/C++. They faxed me a sheet showing what I needed to get 7.0 running; but said there are no guarantees with Visual C/C++. If you need this info let me know and I'll send it to you e-mail. Great technical support is tough to find anywhere with any company. I agree that there have been time when I have been ticked at Informix's response; but, overall, I have seen a substantial improvement over the last 3-4 yrs. (I do use the support facilities at our office for our MIPS platform). My 2 cents is that Informix will be for a long time... > >This lack probably explains why the ESQL/C product only supports only >one compiler vendor, and is a good two releases behind current to boot. >Aparently there is no real intrest in what the experienced grunt user >could contribute to the products they provide. I agree, not being able to select the compile you like is stupid. I would think a simple #define COMPILER would have been nice. Instead I'm forced to buy the MSC compiler even if I already have the Borland compiler.
