Informix ODBC : Problem with euro symbol ()

Hi, I use an architecture client (Windows) /server (Unix). My database codeset is en_us.819. When with my client application (windows XP), I want to insert (or update) a char field with euro symbol () in a table, I have an error : "[Informix ODBC Driver] Inexact character conversion during translation.". I use Informix ODBC Driver. I tried to change "Client Locale" in the tab "Environment" to en_us.CP1252 or fr_FR.8859, I have always the error. The others characters ($, é, è ...) works well. My SDK Client version is 3.70 TC4. Do you know the solution ? Formally there is no solution. en_us.819 does not contain the euro symbol ( ) You'd need to use en_us.8859-15 (819 is the same as 8859-1) So, the error apparently is telling you that there is no conversion for that character in en_us.cp1252 to en_us.819 which is true. I must say that I'm a bit surprised with this behavior, although it's correct. I'd say it shows improvement over past releases. Do you really need to rite the symbol in the database? Can't you live with it just on the application side? In order to change the database local you need to export/import... ;( Regards On Fri, Mar 1, 2013 at 3:07 PM, Franck THOMAS <franck.thomas@consult-ix.fr>wrote: > Hi, > > I use an architecture client (Windows) /server (Unix). > My database codeset is en_us.819. > > When with my client application (windows XP), I want to insert (or > update) a char field with euro symbol () in a table, I have an error : > "[Informix ODBC Driver] Inexact character conversion during translation.". > I use Informix ODBC Driver. > I tried to change "Client Locale" in the tab "Environment" to > en_us.CP1252 or fr_FR.8859, I have always the error. > The others characters ($, é, è ...) works well. > My SDK Client version is 3.70 TC4. > > Do you know the solution ? > > Regards, > > -- > Franck Thomas > ConsultiX > franck.thomas@consult-ix.fr > http://www.consult-ix.fr > Téléphone : 33 (0) 1 39 12 18 00 > Mobile : 33 (0) 6 78 81 09 33 > Fax : 33 (0) 1 39 12 18 18 > > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > > -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently... --047d7b6da8f885fc7d04d6defa15
Hi Fernando, Thank you for your answer. The users can write the euro symbol in the application. We cannot control it. Then, we must use en_us.8859-15 (or another codeset that support euro symbol) for the database.
