Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Samuel Jakabowski, on Informix 10.00 (Solaris), asked how to join scanned manual pages stored one per row in a BYTE column into one document in a blobspace. Paul Watson suggested a Linux tool such as pdfsam to merge images. Samuel said security forbids third-party software on the Sun systems and the pages total about 5 TB; Paul replied to unload to disk and copy to Linux. No in-database method was given.

Guru's
We have a table that contains manuals , The fields are man_ name (char),
page_number (int) and scanned_page (byte). Each page of a manual is in its own
row.
Is there an easy way of joining the pages together and inserting the complete
manual into a blob space,
We are on Informix 10.00 on a Solaris box
Thanks

There are a number of Linux utilities that can merge multiple scanned
images into a single document. Check out www.pdfsam.org, AFAIK its around
$20 and worth every cent
Cheers

Failure is not as frightening as regret.

Thanks for the suggestion. Security will not allow third party software on Sun
systems. The manuals/pages were migrated from the old 7.31 environment. The
pages occupy around 5 TB of the instance
