Logical logs backup to Disk

Was looking to eliminate the use of magnetic tape for DB archive and Logical Log backup and the need for human intervention. Back in May 2012, we had the opportunity to store information an an Avamar Backup system with terabytes of available space. It was easy to perform the nightly DB archive (level 0) to disk and then have the Avamar backup the archive to the off-site system. We have a 15 day retention policy of DB archives on the local system and a 60 day retention policy on the remote Avamar system. The logical logs to disk proved to be problematic and work on this was sporadic until late September. After successfully backing up the logs to disk on our test server, I did several tests of the DB logical restore and every time the logs restored without an issue. Also tried several table level restores and applied the logs with no issues. After another round of testing, the method was applied to our production server. Locally, I keep 10 days of logical logs and on the remotes Avamar system, I keep 60 days. One great feature of the Avamar system is I can do a month end, or year end level 0 archive and set the retention policy on the Avamar to NODELETE on those archives. We are in the second month of this process with no hiccups.
Thanks for sharing (seriously), but was there a question missing in there somewhere? Art Art S. Art, Actually, I am interested in hearing from others that have been successful with disk backup of DB archive and logical logs and I'd be willing to assist anyone with their questions if they are trying to do the same. Larry
Larry, How big is your database? How long does it need to do a level 0 backup? We are backing up both db and logs to disk and recycle it daily, seems happy so far....
