RE: 4GL Versions

I don't think any of us have a problem with Querix as a product. Most of us just get annoyed with the way a certain employee of the Company tries to 'market' it. I put the word market in quotes because he does come across as a market stall trader rather than a professional. The way Querix is constantly thrust in our faces when we are trying to deal with legitimate queries make me wonder if the company is in financial trouble and desperate to get its product more exposure. Most companies advertise their product, but clearly, this costs money. This chaps attitude doesn't make me want to try it out. In fact just the opposite. Personally I (and I'm a nobody) won't be going anywhere near Querix, but then, I wouldn't buy a watch from Del Boy either. A few weeks ago, I asked if anyone had any positive or negative things to say about Querix. I didn't get a single response. Could be that mk_smith is the only person ever to have used it. I could ask again, but I don't care now. -----Original Message----- From: mk_smith@my-deja.com [mailto:mk_smith@my-deja.com] Sent: 03 November 1999 11:51 To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: 4GL Versions Although I do not approve of the way Querix has responded to this e-mail, I think I have to say the following towards the response from Art. I have had just over 12 years of experience with all Informix products and as such I prefer Informix to any other product. Recently we had to port a 4GL program for a client to Oracle (the sales people could not convince him to change to Informix), so I was forced to see what Querix had to offer. I took just under 2 hours to convert the application. We found there are small differences between Querix and Informix 4gl compilers but maybe for the better. We have now decided to use Querix for all our Informix. I do not think that any one should tell whether we should buy or not a product as technical people we have the duty towards our employers to investigate. Clearly using Querix has made a lot of sense to my company as it is saving us a lot and creates new market for us. The case may not be true for every one though. A word of advice for Querix: Try to be more specific when you respond to questions, this would make it more interesting for others to read your mail. With your expertise in Informix and Oracle, you should not limit yourself to responding only to the 4gl questions.
