I assume that you are using the UNIX version of ESQL/C. These were my experiences: 1/ 5.0 ESQL/C against any versions prior to 4.1 (I-SE and I-TURBO), short answer: NO on the condition that you are working stand-alone (=client and server on the same machine). There are too many changes in the API levels. 2/ If the client is on DIFFERENT machine than the database server and using Informix-STAR or Informix-NET then you can access 4.10 servers (NOT 4.0), but beware on some platforms this configuration might not work (especially if you have different hardware vendors (HP, IBM, SCO,...)). It is more safer to use the same hardware platform. 3/ The issue is totally different if you have Windows workstations and using I-NET 5.01 for Windows. With this software, it is guaranteed to access 4.10/4.11 NetWare servers. 4/ If you try to access the good old 2.10 OS/2 database servers... FORGET IT.
