Re: Fixed length output & data conversion

Someone is having trouble with Ace limitations in writing fixed-length
data to be used in converting into some HP SQL database.
I don't know if I should brag or be ashamed, but I gave up Ace about a
year ago and have since used good old awk for all my Reports (dbaccess is
used to UNLOAD a delimited text file for awk to munch). I got converted
out of frustration with Ace problems with BEFORE GROUP, AFTER GROUP, etc.
My SCO UNIX implementation of awk allows input and output records of 3000
characters in up to 100 fields each. This would seem to be better than
Ace can accomplish. The awk printf() and sprintf() can do wondersin
producing fixed-length output from an Informix UNLOAD.
E-mail me directly if you would like some code examples - Dan
