Sounds like the new OS utilities versions are shifting your terminal
into (or out of) application mode from terminal mode. The mode change
changes the key codes generated by function keys and arrow keys as well
as insert, delete, home, end, pageup, pagedown, etc.
Try adding a "tput init" or "tput reset" into the startup script for
you application.
