Thanks for the response on DAT tape errors... - The problem was not with Online. We had two Dynatek DAT 4000 units ( We now know that one has a HP drive and the other has a SONY drive inside !) - We normally used the older DAT 4000 for online. - When we upgraded to 5.03 I swapped to the new unit - I tested the new unit with a old tape via dd & cpio, no problems.! - Ran a tape cleaner & the put in a new MAXELL tape ( as recommened by dynatek ) - Tried to archive and got the errors as posted to the newsgroup. - The error was the new dynatek (SONY) drive's response to a new/bad unformatted tape, this never occured with the older unit.
