Hi All, I have a machine which hosts an instance (xxxx), I've noticed, there are 2 installed Informix version on the same machine. Also, it hosts, the same instance (xxxx) with the same ROOTDBS. Question is: Can i make the instance xxxx become online for both version?... 9.4.UC2 and 9.4.UC6. I'm getting shared memory already exists if i want to startup the other one... Please advise. Thanks,
Hi Jack, It looks like an upgrade was done from UC4 to UC6. I don't think that you should try to start up two instances referencing the same rootdbs Regards > To: ids@iiug.org > From: informix2009@gmail.com > Subject: same instance name, same machine different version [17287] > Date: Fri, 2 Oct 2009 04:05:52 -0400 > > Hi All, > > I have a machine which hosts an instance (xxxx), I've noticed, there are 2 > installed Informix version on the same machine. Hi,
you can't run the instance twice (at the same time).
Depending on the different versions (patch levels) you can switch between the
two versions, for example:
export INFORMIXDIR=/informix/ids94uc2oninit...
onmode -kexport INFORMIXDIR=/informix/ids94uc6
oninit
Switching from lower to higher versions/patch leves should work always,
switching back could be a problem (if sysmaster was changed or new
functionalities where introduced) - swichting back vom higher to lower
versions (e.g. 9.4 -> 9.3 or even 9.4 -> 7.3) is impossible.

No, you cannot have two different engine instances looking at the same disk space, even if they were the same version. The ONLY exception is if you have IDS 11.10 or later and the second instance is configured as a MACH11 SDS (Shared Disk Secondary) instance. Art Art S.
