Recommended value for SHMMAX

Can anyone recommend a good value for SHMMAX based on the following: We're on HPUX 10.2 with Informix 7.30 with 784MB memory. The current value of SHMMAX on our platform is 67MB. After I bring Informix up, an ipcs -m shows that there's 3 segments for resident memory for a total of 158MB. Normally I wouldn't have been too concerned about it until I started reading some of the postings in this newsgroup about the way HPUX manages additional shared memory segments with Informix. Can someone provide me more info on this? Thanks in advance. Stefanie Vario DBA - Roush Industries svario@roushind.com

Yes multiple shared memory segments on HP PA/RISC hardware is death. Set SHMMAX to 2GB and never worry about it again. It cannot cause any harm. Art S. Kagel
