RE: Memory Usage on Informix 7.24

Hi Lee,
What onstat commands are you running?
I think you might be trying to mix apples and oranges here.
We are using Sun (2.5.1) as our OS and Informix 7.24UC3.
I don't know anything about NEC machines.
Output from the Sun ps command can show you the size of a process=20
in memory (ie oninit)in O/S pages (pagesize=3D4096 for Solaris 2.5.1).
Again, this is for a process.
Of the top of my head, I don't know of any onstat commands that
can do that. The onstat commands show you sizes of shared memory.
Examples :
onstat -g seg ; shows the size of shared memory segments. similar to the Sun Unix Command, ipcs -m.
onstat -R |grep total ; shows you the number of buffers. =20 Multiply this times Informix page_size to get the
actual=20
amount of shared memory consumed by buffers.
onstat -g sch ; maps O/S process id's to VP classes, nomemory sizes
are returned here.

Subject: Memory Usage on Informix 7.24
Hi, everybody=20
I have a question and hope you could give me suggestions. Now, we are
developing an application on NEC UP machine (UNIX) with Informix 7.24. =
After
starting up Informix, we use onstat utility to see how many memories =
used by
Informix. The result is the same as our settings in onconfig file. That =
is,
80MB for buffer and 32MB for shared memory. However, when we use UNIX =
ps
command to see how many memories used by Informix processes (virtual
processors), the outcome makes us surprised: they use more than 300MB! =
In
our setting, we have six physical processors and 10 AIO virtual =
processors.
They allocate 16MB memory each! I am very confused, I believe there =
must be
some things wrong. I don=A1=AFt believe Informix occupy so many =
memories. But, I
don=A1=AFt know what happened exactly. Would you like to give me a =
reasonable
explanation?=20
Thank you in advance.=20
best wishes, lix=20
