7 April 1993 I am looking for a workaround on views for online version 5.00.uc2: ------------------- create view myview as select * from mytable where myname = user; The problem is, that online 5.00 can not handle the '= user' specification, where the user id must be placed by the backend process. I have a big system, which is based on this facility, it worked with online 4.10. It is a big problem - I can not upgrade to online 5.00. I know, that it is a known bug, but it does not help me. Do you know an easy way to get around this problem ? A year ago I upgraded 4gl from 4.00 to 4.10 and got the 'autonext infinite loop' on a lot of screens. The consequence was, that one major system was not able to upgrade. The bottom line was, that I was forced to have 2 INFORMIXDIR's. This may be the result again. Over time I may end up with N number of INFORMIXDIR's, where N is the number of new releases in the past added with the number of releases in the future. I know, that it is very human, to implement bugs when software is maintained and new things are added, but it is a big big problem to upgrade every time there is a new release and I have learned the hard way, that it must be done very carefully. We always test our systems carefully before installation of new Informix versions on a production machine. This a very big job and it is increasing with time because the number of functions in the systems and the number of systems gets higher and higher. I hope that one day, it will be possible just to install a new version from Informix and all old things from the old version still works fine.
