Page Size
Posted in 2013
User with tables having row sizes exceeding page size asked whether compression could reduce row sizes and whether compression works with changed dbspace page sizes. Expert confirmed compression reduces row size on disk but requires separate licensing. Maximum supported page size is 16K; supported pages are multiples of platform default (4K on AIX/Windows/MacOS, 2K elsewhere).

Hi, everybody. I talked about this subject before, but I'm not sure what is the best solution for my environment. I have a lot of table that have the row size bigger than page size. I've been thinking about change the dbspace size, use a clob or blob to store those data. I have a idea and would like to know your opinion. Compress resource can be a good option to reduce tyhe row size. Does compress algorithm can reduce the row size? thanks a lot, André Luiz Rufino
Yes, compression will reduce the size of a row on disk, however, compression is not included in the engine for free, you have to have licensed compression separately. Art Art S. Just one more question. May I use the compression feature with dbspace with page size changed ? What is the page size limit in a 11.7 enterprise version ? > To: ids@iiug.org > From: art.kagel@gmail.com > Subject: Re: Page Size [30666] > Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2013 10:09:43 -0400 > > Yes, compression will reduce the size of a row on disk, however, > compression is not included in the engine for free, you have to have > licensed compression separately. > > Art > > Art S. Not sure I understand this last question. The supported page sizes are any multiple of the platform's default page size (so 4K on AIX, Windows, and MacOS X and 2K on all other platforms). Art Art S. Yes, and the upper limit is 16K, for any dbspace pagesize.
