Since that is not happening, I will try to answer the small part that I know about. I use 4GL, not ESQL/C. Our runtime consists of a set of dynamically linked libraries. These get linked into the executable at run time, rather than at ld time. Since the 4GL gets translated into a form of ESQL/C, I would presume that ESQL/C uses a similar library scheme. Probably the ESQL/C library is smaller, since it does not need to support the 4GL language constructs, just the database stuff. ASES should provide the necessary runtime licenses, but I don't know whether this would be a complete ESQL/C runtime, or a special sub-set that they have licensed from Informix. I would guess that you don't need a complete ESQL/C license, since the ASES product seems to replace that program/DB interface. I have heard of several DOS client - DOS server environments, usually running Novell or some similer NetOS. I don't believe I have ever seen references to a UNIX client - DOS server system. Based on the relative performance of DOS and UNIX servers, I can not imagine why one would do such a thing.
