issue installing ids11 FC5 on solaris
Posted in 2010
Will Landstrom's IDS 11 FC5 install on Solaris 10 failed with InstallShield/Java errors ("Cannot run program .../onsecurity" and .jvm.bin, error=22 Invalid argument). Replies pointed to the known Java-installer problems discussed previously in the group (search for "nohome"), and Art Kagel suggested rerunning as ./ids_install -console -javahome none. That attempt then failed while extracting the bundled JRE (rm error under /tmp), which Kagel attributed to /tmp permissions; Sundar also asked whether the media matched the processor type (Sparc vs Intel). No confirmed resolution is recorded in the thread.

Hi everyone. I am getting an error when trying to install ids 11 FC5 on solaris 2.10 machine regarding not being able to run onsecurity. It appears to be some kind of java issue but I am not sure. The machine has java 1.6 installed (which is compatible with ids 11 FC5)....Has anyone seen this error (listed below). Thanks. It keeps on coming up. If you search this newsgroup you'll find some advice about it. This whole Java install thing was very ill-advised, IMHO. -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com I will now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.
Look for "nohome" and you should get right to the solution for your problem. If they must use the java based installer, how about not even looking for a local install of java, and always use the one packed in the installer. At least that way they could avoid all of these stupid version conflicts. --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > Obnoxio The Clown > Sent: Friday, June 18, 2010 8:47 AM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: Re: issue installing ids11 FC5 on solaris [20435] > > WILL LANDSTROM wrote: > > Hi everyone. Try running the install with "-console" and "-javahome none". Art Art S.
