(mention you are with Budagher Marshall/TUXEDO Users Group) FEATURED PRESENTATIONS: (subject to change) Defining Open Distributed Processing (Carl L. Hall, Carl Lyman & Associates, Inc.)--TUXEDO is a middleware product which provides open distributed transaction processing, sometimes called OLTP. This presentation will show in what ways TUXEDO is open. There will be specific discussions about the various X/Open Distributed Transaction Processing specifications. The business value of using open distributed transaction processing as opposed to proprietary systems will be an integral part of the discussions. Client/Server Tools (Dynasty Technologies)--DYNASTY is a "new generation" enterprise class client/server development environment that combines visual and object-oriented programming facilities to deliver high performance, scalable, 3-tier partitioned applications which will leverage emerging distributed heterogeneous computing infrastructures. DYNASTY generates the interface to TUXEDO, allowing DYNASTY applications to function as proxies and take advantage of the TUXEDO environment. Dynasty Technologies' presentation explains some of the difference between "little" and "big" client/server tools, focusing on enterprise-class client/server application development and support for on-line transaction processing. CHAOS: Application Development Failures (The Standish Group)--Research shows a staggering 31.1% of development projects will be cancelled before completion, and 52.7% of projects will overrun their cost estimates by 189%. The lost opportunity costs are not measurable. The Standish Group's study covers the major causes of application project failures and looks at ways to prevent these failures, including the use of 3-tier application development environments which generate to the TUXEDO platform. Tools Strategy for TUXEDO (Novell, Inc)--Novell's TUXEDO System offers users the widest choice in third-party development tools among transaction processing managers, including simple graphical user interface (GUI) builders, 3GLs and 4GLs, upper and lower CASE tools and object oriented tools. In 1995, the TUXEDO System Group has implemented a comprehensive recruiting effort to encourage the support of TUXEDO System among leading vertical application vendors and emerging tool vendors. The various levels of integration between these tools and the TUXEDO System and an overview of Novell's strategy for its TUXEDO System IS V program will be discussed. OSI TP (Novell, Inc)--Last fall Novell's TUXEDO System Group formally announced support for OSI TP, the X/Open transaction processing standard, allowing TUXEDO System to interact with any transaction monitor that also supports the OSI TP standard. This allows the sharing of transactions between dissimilar systems, and provides a common, open environment in which applications can reliably and securely share data and processing in real time. TUXEDO System integrates with non-TUXEDO domains via OSI TP. Examples of two primary scenarios in which this integration will be highly beneficial. TUXEDO System Enterprise Connectivity Strategy (Novell, Inc)--Novell's enterprise connectivity strategy for the TUXEDO System is to provide a tightly integrated interoperability suite for users wishing to bridge from new and open transaction systems to proprietary systems. This will be provided via upper layers of communication through ATMI integration and mapping, automatic data conversion, administration as provided by the TUXEDO System, and transaction coordination across disparate systems. TUXEDO Futures (Novell, Inc)--An overview of upcoming features and functionality for TUXEDO System. Each attendee will be required to complete a non-disclosure form. Mainframe Connectivity: What's Wrong With Transparency? (IMC)--The ideal interconnection tool would be transparent within each OLTP system, presenting a native look and feel to developers, administrators, maintenance programmers and operators. The connection, however, should not be transparent. Differences should be hidden by the tool. One such tool, Open TransPort, achieves the goal of keeping OLTP applications from seeing the presence of, and differences between, remote systems. OpenEdition MVS (IBM)--Connectivity, portability and interoperability features that IBM believes andwer user needs and long-standing requirements. With the advent of IMC TUXEDO on MVS, IBM will suggest the familiar UNIX tools and services available on MVS provide something new and exciting. One can now join the proven power of TUXEDO to the proven, commercial support and scalability of MVS.
