Temp tables and LIKE

What's the reasoning behind temp tables not allowing the 'LIKE table.column' syntax in 4GL's version of 'CREATE TABLE'? There's a good maintenance benefit in having the facility, as changes to data types don't need to be tracked through the code (well, not as much anyway). Seeing as how 4GL is now Category 2 maintenance, I won't bother with an enhancement request, but I'd be interested in knowing why it wasn't implemented that way in the past.
