Re: Distributed Join

Hi Eoin, OmniSQL Gateway will indeed work with multiple databases at the same time. One may perform a distributed query between Sybase SQL Server, Oracle7, Informix, DB2, IMS, Adabas and others. In fact Omni can access any data source that Sybase or MDI has gateways for (which is quite a bit). If the customer decides to use a Sybase Open Server application Omni will access that Open Server application just as if it where any of the other mentioned data sources. In addition Omni allows application developers to write T-SQL (Sybase SQL Server's language) stored procedures against any data source. This means that a customer may have stored procedures against DB2 today! Indeed, about two years ago I almost won a bet with an Oracle employee that we, Sybase, were going to have stored procedures for the Oracle DBMS before Oracle Corporation (I lost by one week). In the upcomming version of Omni we will support transparent two-phase commit accross heterogenous environments.
