Big Table Maintenance

Hi All, I have a fragmented table ( each month one fragment ) Number of rows per fragment : Approx. 105,000,000 Row size : 127 I have a data from Nov. 98 ( 11 fragments ) We decided to split this table in 3 tables. 3 months, 4 months and all others in the third table. I detached all fragments other that 3 current months, which created separate tables for each month. I used HPL to unload and load data from 4 tables to combine into the second table. I'm facing problem to create a composite index on the second table. ( Long Trasaction and insufficient sort space ) I'm changing the log mode to 'no log'and increse the sort space to create an index. Is this a good way or attach fragments is a good way ? Also how to calculate the sort space required for an index build ?
