Relay Module performance
Posted in 1996
I have conducted tests with the Relay Module. I participated in the OnLine 6 and 7 beta programs, and whenever using the relay module, you will find your applications running slower. In the early beta program, 4GL applications were running 3 to 6 times slower, when having to go through the SQLRM. My advice, avoid at all costs, unless the application does very little communication between the application and the database, or you absolutely, positively can't upgrade to a 6.x 4GL (If you can't upgrade the tool, I strongly suggest reconsidering the engine upgrade). Test your application using the SQLRM....that should be your determining factor. The SQLRM may have been improved some, since I last used it, but it still can't be faster then using native SHMEM or TLI connections. Jon ------------------------------ Jon C. Has anybody conducted any tests to prove this one way or another ?
