Hans doesn't say how "large" large is, but the below has never failed me
yet (used within bourne shell script):
# tell dbaccess where your *.dbs directory is located:
SDB="/dbpathname"
# dbaccess -e $SDB - << STOP 2>&1 | tee /tmp/xxx # she's a screamer
# dbaccess $SDB - << STOP 2>/dev/null # she's real quiet dbaccess $SDB - << STOP # she only whimpers
UPDATE STATISTICS ;
-- [m]any other SQL statements
STOP
# more script statements ...
