I didn't get a chance to catch up with him but :he was in hot pursuit of this topic. The guy may mean Nils?!? (Me?) And the pursuit is still on. May be, may be not. Informix isn't realy giving a lot of information to assertain this though. We have all these people wanting to continue on a dead end running Windows 3.1, and Informix seems to have buckled in. Whether this is the real reason for the delay of NewEra or not wasn't easy to find out: 1. They may not have a releasable product (to be called 2.5 or whatever). 2. They may have become so intrenched in their super duper new engines (they are realy in a class by themselves compared to the others - wort and bandaid solutions according to Stonebreaker) that they forget most people are looking at other things in tools right now. 3. They may not understand the tools bussiness all that well yet. Two years ago, when NewEra was introduced, they sertanly didn't have a clue about many of the most obvious requirements. They did however understand that application partitioning was the clue to gain a foothold and promised that. Last year they introduced version 2 where application partitioning where possible (but not simple), fixed some bugs, and now promised some of the obvious features they didn't grasp the year before. Release schedule for these features was january 1997 or something like that if I don't remember wrong. Now they still haven't given us these features, and "promise" them for december 1997?? Now there isn't much wrong with their plans for NewEra. Whether that will make much of a difference I don't know yet. Without a 2.5 release now it will be hard, but still possible. I am evaluating, and plan to write some more about it. If I do I may make it available here, or at least post info on how to get it if anyone are interested.
