As usual I suspect that somebody is misquoting to their own advantage. 4GL will continue to be supported but INFORMIX will probably not bring out any changes to make the language more competitive unless we can make a very good case. They are however incorporating DBCENTURY into the next release. If you want to see changes to 4GL in the future why not join the IIUG and use the advocacy program to air these views. regards Malcolm At 12:44 23/11/97 +0000, Howard Soper wrote: }Had a very strange phonecall from a company specialising in migration }from 4GL -> Oracle, Sybase, C etc. } }Effectively they were canvassing for business on the basis that the CEO }of Informix has anounced that "a database provider would have to be }braindead to provide its own tools" - this was taken to mean that 4GL }would soon be dead as an ongoing product. } }Is this true - surely not ??? }If Informix 4GL IS not to be developed then how long will support be }provided ?? } }Hope someone can answer this - I am sure I am not alone in using }Informix 4GL as our core platform for development. } }Regards Howard } } Malcolm Weallans Online Database Consultancy (+44)1628 672154 Fax (+44)1628 637463
