In working with tech support on this issue, I learned that the infxalrm program: * Is used to send "events" to IECC (or to a spool area for such events) * Is launched whenever an "event" is generated by the engine * Is present in versions starting with 7.3 * Is not affected in any way by the value of ALARMPROGRAM in onconfig I am still not clear where these "events" get spooled. The second level engineer I was working with couldn't tell me this, nor could he say one way or another that the hung processes I was seeing were a result of the infxalrm program being unable to communicate with the engine. I had a hard time with tech support on this case. The first line engineer would never concede that the engine was launching this program. When the case was escalated to second level, the engineer was skeptical about this even being an Informix binary. We quickly resolved this, and eventually he was able to find a reference to a case similar to mine. In that case I believe that the platform was 7.3x against HP, and the customer was see- ing the same thing I was. The problem was never fixed. The suggested work around was to rename infxalrm so that it wouldn't be called. This breaks IECC's ability to monitor events, but that's fine for us. Since doing this I haven't experienced any ill effects. HTH. Larry Kemmerling Product Systems Engineer AT&T Wireless Services Aviation Communications Division
