Invalid characters in LVarChar field
Posted in 2006
IDS: 9.4 FC3 O/S: HPUX 11.11 We have a .NET app that uses log4net to write application exceptions to our database to help debugging. However when it inserts the .NET exception, it inserts nonprintable/invalid characters between each and every letter of the exception. It makes reading the error very difficult and we are looking for a way to remove these characters after insert. When using VBA to try and determine what characters these are, they return as ASCII value of 0 (which is a null) so we tried to use a replace(field,NULL) statement to get rid of them to no avail. Any ideas on how to remove these? I saw a sample function called char2int that returns ASCII values for given text, but it only handles printable characters so I loose spaces, carriage returns, etc. We have no control over manipulating the lvarchar before it is inserted into the DB. Sample is attached since I can't cut and paste the value. Thanks, Randy
