John Fowler's request

John Fowler. I tried to send this directly to you but jcfowler@wheaton, which is what your address came to me as, was bounced by our mail system John, Without going through your whole application idea, let me simply say that trying to sense the arrow keys is difficult. I had a reason to do that a year or so ago and found it a difficult enough problem that I designed the application around creating a menu and controlling my own array and the display of it. This has the advantage of not forcing the user to take some action just to get out of a display array and another action to indicate selection, which sounds like it might be what you are trying to do. I do know that I spent quite a bit of time and experimentation trying to figure out how to get the arrow keys to be recognized, but to no avail. In retrospect one approach I did not try was to ignore direct recognition of the arrow key and use something else. Perhaps arr_count() to recognize whether the user has gone up or down in the array. However, in that situation, you are still stuck with something other than the enter key to indicate selection. So much for speculation on what I didn't do. Let me know if you have a further interest in what I did, and if you come up with a way to recognize it, please pass it on. Good luck -- Con Woodall Colorado St. U.; Veterinary Teaching Hospital; Ft.
