NEVER NEVER NEVER, did I say NEVER yet? INSERT UPDATE OR DELETE from any tables in SYSMASTER. In the words of the Informix Manuals and many folk I know in Menlo the results are "UNKNOWN" read that "You may trash your a**!" Don't do it. Of course there is the obvious SQL command: RENAME DATABASE oldname TO newname; Now this is completely safe. Keep the SQL Quick Syntax Guide handy. Art S. Kagel
