Since the table was in page-lock mode, the first access to the small table locked almost the whole index, and a paralel access was not possible (SQL -245). A possible way out of this is to 1) modify the table to row-lock mode AND/OR 2) set the isolatin level to dirty read I don't know if 2) is possible with stored procedures. Good luck Predrag JUKIC
