Estimate compression UGH
Posted in 2010
Mike ran EXECUTE FUNCTION task("table estimate_compression", "agent", "policy2007", "informix") on 11.50.UC6 (Solaris 10) and got "No such table" errors in the online log, even though oncheck -pt showed the table existed and the syntax matched the manual. Another user reported the same misleading error on 11.50.FC7 (but not FC6W1), initially guessing the table was already compressed — which Mike confirmed it wasn't. IBM's John Miller noted a known confusion when a table and an index share the same name. No confirmed fix; Mike said he'd open a PMR.

I am on a roll today...
I am trying to run the following:
dbaccess sysadmin;
EXECUTE FUNCTION task
("table estimate_compression", "agent", "policy2007", "informix");
Getting:
(expression) FAILED: table estimate_compression policy2007:informix.agent
Online log says:
13:38:17 SCHAPI ERROR: validate policy2007:informix.agent failed
13:38:17 SCHAPI ERROR:policy2007:informix.agent-No such table
13:38:17 SCHAPI ERROR: table estimate_compression policy2007:informix.agent
failed.
BUT...
oncheck -pt policy2007:informix.agent
TBLspace Report for policy2007:informix.agent
Physical Address 238:1023277
Creation date 09/11/2010 21:12:32
TBLspace Flags 8801 Page Locking

First extent size 290098
Next extent size 58020
Number of pages allocated 290098
Number of pages used 287197
Number of data pages 255232
...
WTF? Throw a maunal at me - but tell me what page as I have looked everywhere.
I even ran the 'enable compression' stmt after getting the error. Baffled.

Hello.
I think your command syntax is incorrect.

And what part would be wrong? From the doc:
EXECUTE FUNCTION task
(table estimate_compression", table_name, database_name, owner_name);
My command:
EXECUTE FUNCTION task
("table estimate_compression", "agent", "policy2007", "informix");
The table is 'agent', the database is policy2007, and the owner is informix...
NEXT!
Sorry Mike,
I´ve got the same error here, if my table is already compressed, it
raises an error like yours.
Please check the oncheck -pT output, and watch if there´s a "Compressed
Data Summary" section.
I guess your table is already compressed.
But that error message is wrong, anyway. The table really exists.
If you could, open a PMR with IBM, if there isn´t already one for this
"in the oven", ok?
Best regards.

Mike,
one more thing:
Our 11.50.FC7 test instance returns that error, like yours.
But our 11.50.FC6W1 producton system does not. It displays the output,
with the "curr" column filled (table compressed).
Best regards!

Good info - I double checked, as I was sure we did not have compression enabled for any tables - and we do not. Guess I will open a pmr...
Mike: I was aware of an issue if you have the table and an index named the same it got confused. Not sure if this is your case?? John F.
