AFAIK a child process has the choice of inheriting the existing connection to the database server or closing it and starting up a new server (thereby losing any right to a lock established by the parent). The ESQL-C calls to accomplish this are not particularly well documented. I would add that my experience of passing database servers to child processes have not been exactly trouble free. :-) Mike.
