Hello All, I have an interesrting question related to the IDS 10.0 UCx. My question is that i have a Table that has around 80 columns, all are of varchar type. So the challange is that i want to insert around 2500 transactions per second in this table, this table dont have any indexes on it as well. So can anyone could share his/her experience while handling such volumne of insertions in Informix, also i would like to know that what is the maximum limit that informix claims for such insertions? And if it would require any specific configurations parameters, then kindly let me know. I shall be looking forward for an early response. Thanks in advance for the anticipation. Using multiple connections (ie multiple threads or multiple copies of the insert application), a PUT cursor in a host language like 4GL or ESQL/C opened WITH HOLD, maximum sized communication buffer size ( environment var FET_BUF_SIZE=32767 or global host variable FetBufSize = 32767), and commits every 5000-10000 PUTs you should be able to insert several thousand rows per second if the machine and your disk farm can handle it. In a benchmark I did as POC for a project, running six copies of the test app was able to insert 2400 data record sets per minute (one 450+ byte master record and two hundred 200+ byte child records per set) with multiple indexes on each table. That works out to over 8000 rows per second on a 32-way Sun box with several hundred programmers logged in coding, testing, and editing running a copy of our full production environment into a IDS 7.31 32bit instance remotely running on a similar box using 4 CPU VPs and RAW RAID10 disk. See my dbcopy.ec and ul.ec utilities for some coding methods. Art S.
