Been there, done that. Last time it was 386 - 486; now it's 486 - Pentium. I just waited them out. Eventually they moved their price break. At the moment, I'm having the *exact* same argument with Progress. From my experience, there appears no difference at the binary level. The argument is that your machine can do more therefore you should pay more. As the performance increase is solely due to your hardware investment I regard this as rubbish. BTW, the Progress user licencing algorithm makes Informix look benevolent. Informix counts users; Progress counts *server processes*. goodbye background jobs on an 8 user system. Peter Wiley
