The level 1 driver is from their flat file days, and as such they calculate hash keys for every record and select 1 record at a time. So there are no joins, no temp space (much) and hence usual tactics like query optimisation and distributions don't work. Also, it is best to use Baan's own utilities for moving tables around, otherwise you could end up corrupting their hash keys. The 2 main things that will help your performance are, get rid of RAID5 in favour of RAID1 or 10, and distribute your tables across many dbspaces based on IO. I have done this in the past and seen a good improvement in performance. A 3rd option would be to upgrade to the level 2 driver if you can. If you are going to get a consultant in, make sure they know BaaN/Informix, cos an Informix consultant could make things worse very quickly. ;-) Cheers, -- Mark. +----------------------------------------------------------+-----------+ | Mark D.
