I'm afraid that this disparity in functionality is one of the :reasons we are also considering strongly considering a move to MS :SQL-Server. Informix's great weakness is their castrated SPL--at :least compared to SQL-Server. It is truly unfortunate, as they have a :very powerful engine. :>Yes, but then we have 4GL. SQL Server has .... MS Access? :-) Well, it does also have Visual Basic Enterprice Edition, Delphi, Powerbuilder and so on. So the situation isn't all that bad. And Informix also have NewEra. However the original poster and Mike Lemon should look at the Universal Server before they even consider changing to SQL server. Universal server will have SPL that goes outside everything you have seen so far, including (but not limited to) Java executed inside the engine. Also all the other new facilities and functions in Universal Server will be so revolutionising you that any move to SQL Server will seem like a move to the stone age. This all assumes Informix can pull it off though, but there seems to be every reason to believe that.
