How do you approach this problem?

The log files recently took up 100% of the file system for the
logfiles. Additional space was given but now informix is giving us
this:
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 10.00.FC4 -- On-Line (CKPT
REQ) -- Up 4 days 10:31:40 -- 2258944 KbytesBlocked:CKPT
I tried to run an onbar_d -b -l but that did not seem to do anything.

Hmmmm ...
1. The Logical Log files are already allocated within the engine ...
Post the output from onstat -l
2. Do you mean that you use onbar to backup the logical logs and that backup area allocated to ISM (or "a.n.other" Storage Manager)
filled?

I actually managed to figure out the problem. Big thanks to the
bar_act.log. I noticed that the onbar_d -b -l was getting a
BAR_TIMEOUT message.
I checked the ISM and noticed that the device for the logfiles were
write protected.
I recreated the device and the volume and ran a backup. IDS is now in
On-Line mode with the block cleared.
