7.2 talking to 8.2

Does anybody know about any potential problems with a stored procedure being executed on Informix Online Server 7.2 and selecting some data from another remote server (version 8.2 (data warehouse)) ? It works, but I'd like to know, if it's going to work after servers are upgraded. I hope that protocol Informix uses for this kind of communication will remain the same in the future, regardless of the server version. Any info will be appreciated. I'd be surprised if it worked currently. To my knowledge istar is not yet implemented in 8.2. I'm working with 8.21.UD2, and remote database connections are not allowed.
