Error 354
Posted in 1995
Dear Informixers,
I have the following configuration (OS is SINIX 5.41, a SysVR4):
Machine1: Machine2:
Online 5.01 SE 5.01
Star 5.01 Net 5.01
Database "andok91" Database "/home/andok91/andok91"
I can access "andok91" residing on Machine1 in Online just fine from
Machine2 by setting DBPATH appropriately or by entering "//Machine1/andok91"
as argument for dbaccess or the DATABASE statement.
I cannot do it the other way round, however. When I try accessing the SE
database with the same name on Machine2 from Machine1 by entering
"//Machine2/home/andok91/andok91" as argument for dbaccess or DATABASE, I
get error 254 "Incorrect database or cursor name format". The strange thing
is that a network connection is established to sqlexecd on Machine2 for
a short while and immediately aborted. Access permissions are ok, as verified
by working rsh etc.
I need this functionality because a process on Machine1 should update
the database on Machine2 with data from Machine1 at regular intervals.
This process should definitely run on Machine1, since that is the
central server and there is in fact more than one machine of the same
setup as "Machine2".
Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Richard
