No Transactional -> Transactional

Is it possible to change my actual database to transactional one? I have a database in Informix 7.1, using a lot of programs in ACUCobol and SQLWindows (Gupta) in client/server architechture. The programs doesn't use the commit instructions, so if i change the database to transactional i get errors (-244) telling me that the table is locked. Any help?
