You are right. Creating the indexes by using a full dbschema to start out
does take forever.
Informix thought this one out for us already.
The dbexport / dbimport utilities already load the data, then create
indexes.
All I do is
1. create work directory and log into it
2. dbexport __dbname__
3. tar -cvf dbname.tar *
4. ftp dbname.tar to new system, tar -xvf, then dbimport
5. dbimport will allow you to do such things as naming the dbspace, etc.
