onpload/HPL migration from 7.23 to 7.3

Here's the scenario. Yesterday we migrated from 7.23 to 7.3 IDS.
Part of the preparation was dbexport of the onpload database. Did the
dbimport, no errors reported.
Here's the problem. HPL won't work. All the devices in the onpload
are missing AND cannot be modified(?!).
Current theory we are investigating is that Informix modified the column
lay out of the onpload between versions.
Has anyone seen this problem? Any suggestions?

I also tried to use dbexport and dbimport to move the onpload around. I
had similar problems. An Informix technician worked with me for several
days. It seems that if you create the onpload database as the same user
that owns the original database, create the target database as the same
user, and make sure that you dbexport and dbimport as the same user, it can
work. This all seemed pretty offensive to me but I think that I was
convinced that it would work.
Our schema tended to change several times from the time that we started
testing HPL until we did the final conversion. There is no easy way to
generate all of the HPL components for an entire database via ipload.
After generating HPL components for 358 tables, table by table, I decided
that there had to be a better way. After observing how ipload populated
the various onpload tables, I wrote an ESQL/C program to generate the HPL
components for a given database and a onpload database. Informix doesn't
officially recommend this but if you have a large number of tables in a
database that may change, I think that it is the only way to go.
Since we were converting from Informix Online 5.XX to Informix Online 7.XX,
I only created the HPL load maps. I am currently modifing the program to
also generate the unload maps. I suspect that it could be written in 4GL
also. It is not all that complicated once you get into it.
If you are interested, send email, and I will send you the source.

Yes please!
I have just under 8000 tables to put into HPL (can you say sap?).
I really could use this a lot.
