In article <D0GCsC.9wz@world.std.com> you write: } } What is the best granularity to use? Start and begin before and after } each row? Before and after the input array? Does anyone know what } the default is for NewEra and is it applicable to 4gl? I use a } generator which encloses the whole session in transaction. This } causes problems in certain applications. } Who's code generator does that? What I usually do for header/detail is use a FOR loop to blow through the detail array and INSERT each row into the detail table. This is done right after the INSERT (if you're doing an Add) or right after the UPDATE (if you're doing an Update). May I suggest using db4glgen to generate your code. The "-l" option to db4glgen cause code to be generated for a database with transactions. ONLY DATABASE MODIFICATIONS ARE PLACED IN A TRANSACTION!!! Also, by handling the detail array as outlined above, it naturally falls into the transaction with little or no effort.
