Can't compile 4ge using 7tools for SCO
Posted in 1999

We are having trouble compiling under the 7tools.
We have just installed:
INFORMIX-SQL 6.05.UD2
INFORMIX-4GL Rapid Development System 7.20.UD6
INFORMIX-4GL Interactive Debugger 7.20.UD6
INFORMIX-4GL 7.20.UD6
Informix Dynamic Server 7.30.UC2X2
in that order,
for SCO UNIX 3.2.5.0.X
Our compiler is
SCO UNIX Development System Release 5.1.0Ha 25Apr97
We can recompile our existing programs fine using RDS,
but when we try to make a 4ge we get the following:
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
getspnam
/usr/informix/lib/tools/libos.a(ospasswd.o)
a.out: fatal error: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to
a.out
We will get this even on a simple "Hello World" test program.
We have tried linking /usr/lib/libsec.a to
$INFORMIXDIR/lib/tools/libos.a
and compiling with the -lgen flag but to no avail.
The environment is
NO_SUBQF=1
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:.:/usr/local/bin:/usr/informix:/usr/informix/bin:/u/fourgen/b
in:/u/store/replen/bin:/u/store/video/bin:/u/store/pos/bin:/u/store/labo

informix

DBNAME=store

DBPATH=//hst7777LOGNAME=informix
MAIL=/usr/spool/mail/informix

DBEDIT=/usr/bin/vi
PWD=/u/tmp/7tools

Has anyone else seen a problem like this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've not seen the problem, but the missing function is for reading the shadow password file given a user name. You need to work out which library provides this function -- and the answer may be a library which is not on your machine (but which was on the development machine where the port was done). One possible library is the libnsl.so shared object - the c4gl script may look for libnsl.a, not find it, and miss out on the symbol which is defined in libnsl.so. You should report this to Tech Support, who should be able to tell you which library you are missing. Probably not immediately on the first phone call, but it shouldn't take all that long. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
