Locate your copy of the Informix Migration Guide (possibly on your Answers Online CD). In is well described there, in my version page 5-34.
onmode -b is probably what you want, but there is a list of 16 steps to consider.

We have problem.
We want downgrade Informix 7.31 FC2 to 7.30 FC6 (on HP 11).
We must recreate sysmaster database.
We save all procedures (dbschema -d .. -f all ....sql).
After recreating sysmaster database (script : buildsmi) we try create all
old procedures.
(dbaccess .... ....*sql).
It's not works.
We have about 3900 stored procedures (ca. 500,000 lines of code).
Not all procedures are loaded and we wait a long time. The session maked
noyhing.
Have you so many stored procedures ?
Can you help us?
