Informix 7.23 and 7.24 on Solaris ?
Posted in 2003
A DBA asked whether Informix 7.24 would run on Solaris 2.5 (he had 7.23 there and 7.24 on a Solaris 2.6 box), since IBM's site and release notes no longer covered such old platform combinations. IBM staff confirmed 7.24 is compatible with Solaris 2.5, citing the 7.24 Solaris machine notes (which also mention shared-memory segment limits of 2 GB on 2.4 and 3.75 GB on 2.5.1). They added that 7.24 was out of support and suggested going straight to 7.31, noting Solaris 2.5 was supported in 7.31.UC1 through 7.31.UD3, with UD4 onward requiring Solaris 2.6.

I am running a sun 2.6 machine with 7.24 (been there forever) I have a sun 2.5 machine with 7.23 I want to upgrade 7.23 to 7.24 on the 2.5 box, is 7.24 compatible with the 2.5 box and where can I find this info out. Release notes don't help me here and neither does the wonderful IBM website. Platform version information does not go back that far. g GE Financial Assurance _________________________________________________ Kenneth C. Hi, yes, it's compatible. Probably 7.24.UC10 (the last one of 7.24) is already out-of-service, so nobody really needs this info ... ;-) Regards, Martin -- Martin Fuerderer IBM Informix Development Munich Data Management Solutions "Olson, Kenn...." <Kenneth.Olson@ge.com> Sent by: forum.subscriber@iiug.org 29.10.2003 16:47 To: ids@iiug.org cc: Subject: Informix 7.23 and 7.24 on Solaris ? Yes, 7.24 is compatible on Solaris 2.5. If you're looking for "official" documentation, I found the following in the 7.24 Solaris machine notes: 18. Maximum size of a shared memory segment allocated by Online Dynamic Server is 2 GB on Solaris 2.4. This may be limited by actual memory available and/or kernel configuration. Maximum size of a shared memory segment allocated by Online Dynamic Server is 3.75 GB on Solaris 2.5.1. This may be limited by actual memory available and/or kernel configuration. Please be aware that IDS 7.24 is unsupported (cat 4). Recommend that if you upgrade, you go straight to IDS 7.31. Helen - can I assume that a UC fixpack is available for Solaris 2.5 (also too old for site)? We supported Solaris 2.5 with 7.31.UC1 through 7.31.UD3. Starting with 7.31.UD4, the minimum OS version supported is Solaris 2.6.
