Using onbar to load a snapshot to Windows development machine

I have a linux box running IDS express 11.5 in production. We are
doing onbar -w backups nightly to files. I downloaded the IDS
developer edition and installed it on my windose xp desktop. I want
to grab a night's backup and load them on my machine to do development
work with. Is there a simple way to do this? I get lost every time I
try to follow the manuals in getting the Onbar and ISM set up. The
jumping around from one manual / chapter to the next is hard to
follow.

This is a simple case of you can't restore a linux onbar (or ontape)
backup to a Windoze box, you have to use dbexport, Art's myexport or a
similar non-platform specific method of obtaining your data.

Does myexport work on line? Or do I need to restore it to another
linux box then do the export. ( I may just install the dev db on a
linux box then do the work there)

Myexport doesn't run in exclusive access mode like dbexport, so you could myexport your data from the production box and dbimport to the Windoze box. In any case, if you have another linux box available, that's probably your best answer since it would be a better match for your production environment.

Good point, I will take that into consideration. Thanks for your
help.
