Re: Help to Promote Linux! - Economics....

Sorry but a 5-25 user license is plenty for the small business market. I thought this was the same market this Linux port was addressing. I have been an original subscriber to the Linux/Informix port group and responded to the questionnaire when it first was issued. I was asked to indicate the number of copies I would purchase, and I did, despite no indication as to price. As I said to Tim at one point, I could wait until Comdex (Fall97) to make a decision for my vertical (for non-profits). That time came and went. Informix has yet to even indicate a price point for the port or a time frame. I dislike M$ as much as anyone but I have five sites who are going with the upgrade to NT/SBS (4-12 stations/site) and the only alternative is Informix at $300/user for SCO + the cost of SCO + the cost of tools and middleware. Even tried to get indication of any price movement on SCO platform and was told NO by Informix. I know M$ may try to get even on this deal in the future but right now it is priced right and MARKETABLE. It is a much easier sale than SCO/Informix. And my demo copy of SBS is in hand and free. Informix does an opportunity in this market but if they continue to drag their feet, it will cetainly pass them by.
