Recovery OnLine, Long TX & Full Logs

Hi, We tested some problem on our old OnLine (5.03) & OnLine went down :-)) Situation is very simply: we executed some UPDATE on big table, filled all logical logs and then we restarted OnLine. Now OnLine is in Recovery Mode and wait for checkpoint and Logs. * Logs are full. * Backup of LL does nothing, because all logs are filled in one uncommited transaction * We cannot add new LL, we are not in quiescent mode. * checkpoint (tbmode) doesn't make nothing We can reinitialize OnLine but for experience - have you any tip?
